ASI stabbed to death by accused in Brahmanbaria

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was stabbed to death reportedly by an accused during a raid at Chandopur Bazar in Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday evening.  

The victim, Amir Hossain, 32, was an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model police station. He was the son of Montaj Ali from Ziarchar village in Sadar upazila of Mymensingh.

Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anisur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He said: "Acting on a tip-off, Amir Hossain with another ASI Moni Shankar went to Chandopur Bazar in the upazila at around 5pm to arrest Mamun Miah, an accused in a case filed under the Arms Act."

"As they reached the area, Mamun attacked the law enforcers with a knife and fled the scene."

Amir Hossain and Moni Shankar were rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where doctors declared Amir dead, the SP said. 

"Police are conducting raids to arrest accused Mamun. We have arrested a person in connection with the incident, but will disclose his name later for the sake of investigation."  the police official added.
