Two brothers killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Police recovered two firearms, 11 cartridges, and 20, 000 yaba tablets from the spot

Two brothers have been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar. 

The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Chawk Bazar area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Amanul Islam,34, and his brother Abdul Haque,28, sons of Aminul Haque of Chandonaish in Chittagong.

Three policemen were injured in the incident. They were taken to Teknaf Upazila Hospital for prompt treatment. 

Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das confirmed the matter.

He said, around 6am, it was reported that Amanul Islam and his gang were trading yaba and weapons in the Chawk Bazar area of Teknaf. Learning of that, the police conducted a drive there.

Sensing the presence of police, the yaba dealers opened fire. When three of the police were injured, the police fired back. 

At one stage, the criminals retreated and fled the scene. Later, the bodies of Amanul and Abdul Haque who were shot were recovered from the area, Pradip Kumar said.

They were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where on duty doctors declared them dead.

A case was filed in this connection.
