Professor Dr Abul Bashar Mosharrof (ABM) Hossain breathed his last around 2am on Saturday at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital.
The 86-year-old professor emeritus of Islamic History and Culture Department in RU was undergoing treatment at the hospital for a few days before his demise.
RU Professor Fazlul Hoque, also the chairman of the department, said: "Prof ABM Hossian has been living in Dhaka's Kalabagan for a long time. A few days ago he was hospitalized with a broken backbone as he fell in his bathroom"
Prof Hossain will be buried at the Mirpur Intellectual graveyard in the afternoon. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, said Prof Fazlul.
ABM Hossain joined as a lecturer in Rajshahi University in 1960. Later in his career he observed his duty as department chairman, dean of arts faculty, and other administrative posts.
In 2001, he was the first prof in RU who was given the title of emeritus.
