Dr Md Sajjad Hossain, the highest ranking health officer in Feni, died of Covid-19 on Tuesday afternoon.
The civil surgeon breathed his last at around 6pm at the intensive care unit of the capital's Asgar Ali Hospital.
Mizanur Rahman, an official at the Feni district Civil Surgeon Office, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Dr Sajjad was initially in home quarantine after being tested Covid-19 positive on June 12. Two days later he was hospitalized with breathing problems.
On June 18, he was transferred to Asgar Ali Hospital for better treatment.
So far, 63 doctors have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh and eight more have passed away with Covid-19 symptoms.
Bangladesh on Tuesday confirmed 55 more deaths from Covid-19 and 3,027 new cases of infection through testing 13,173 samples.
With this, the death toll from the virus rose to 2,151, while the number of total infections stood at 168,645.
