Police have arrested a man for raping his daughter repeatedly in Madaripur Sadar upazila, based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother.
Sadar model police station Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan said they had held Nuruzzaman, 42, from his residence at Adityapur village in Kunia union on Tuesday evening.
Nuruzzaman, a day-labourer, raped his seventh-grader daughter several times at the family house about two weeks ago, according to the case.
The girl told her mother about the matter and the latter requested her husband not to do it again. But the rapist continued raping the daughter over the week.
The mother then sought help from the neighbours. Sensing danger, the rapist fled the area.
As he returned home on Tuesday afternoon, locals informed the police. The law enforcers went to the village and arrested Nuruzzaman from his residence.
According to media reports, at least 17 girls have been raped by their fathers in different districts across Bangladesh since 2013.
