He was presented in court, which ordered him sent to prison on Saturday.

There are complaints against him of extorting money from people in the name of sending them abroad and torturing people after sending them abroad to extort money from their family members in the country.

A woman named Rahima Begum filed a complaint against Anwar at Nagarpur police station on Friday.

The complaint stated that Anwar sent her husband Nur Mohammad to Saudi Arabia in December last year, after which her husband had no contact with his family.

After two months Nur Mohammad called his family and said Anwar’s people were torturing him and he was locked up in a room.

He also said that the men would kill him if his family did not pay Anwar Tk10 lakh.

His family has not had any contact with him since that call and are worried if he is even alive.

There have been local arbitrations with Anwar where he said he would let Nur Mohammad go free as soon as he was paid the money he demanded.

On information Nagarpur police detained Anwar from Mokna bazar on Friday night.

He had a stolen 100cc Bajaj Discover motorcycle with him at the time.

Nagarpur police station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jahirul Alam filed a case against Anwar, who was sent to prison by the court on Saturday.

Nagarpur police station Sub-Inspector Nur Mohammad said a case had been filed against Anwar regarding the motorcycle theft, while the allegations of human trafficking were under investigation.

If the allegations proved to be true, a human trafficking case would be filed against him and he would be imprisoned under that case as well.

The senior Joint Convenor of Jubo League’s Nagarpur upazila unit, Bhoktogopal Rajbongshi Pintu, said, the party would not take responsibility for a person’s crimes. After coming to know about the incident the party had suspended him.
