Police arrested a Sarak Paribahan Sramik League leader for attempting to rape his teenage stepdaughter in Damudya upazila of Savar.
The arrested was identified as Raza Molla, 38, general secretary of the Ashulia unit Sarak Paribahan Sramik League.
Raza gave a confessional statement at court regarding the rape attempt on Friday afternoon, confirmed Savar Model police station Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain.
The girl's mother filed a case in connection with the rape attempt at Savar Model police station on Thursday.
According to the case statement, the girl was only five years old when her mother married Razzak in 2013. Since then he was making inappropriate proposals to the girl.
On the night of May 15, Razzak attempted to rape her when he found her alone but failed, as her mother intervened, added the case details.
The victim’s family claimed the accused had been threatening to harm them after he made the alleged rape attempt.
