A garment worker has been killed by some unidentified assailants who reportedly kidnapped him from Gona village of Manikganj's Singair upazila.

The deceased is Amir Hossain, alias Lalon Deoan, 38, son of late Harunur Rashid, who was a freedom fighter. Amir worked at Britannia Garments and Packaging Factory in Hemayatpur of Savar.

Amir's body was found at a jute field on Saturday morning in Singair after he went missing on Friday night, according to his family members.

Singair police station SI Anwar Hossain said Amir's body has multiple injury marks and police are primarily suspecting that the man has been killed by his friends over a dispute concerning drugs.

However, the victim's brother Habib Dewan claimed his brother was picked up by some unknown miscreants in a white microbus around 9:30pm on Friday.

Habib also said that he couldn't name any reason behind the kidnapping and murder of his brother, and acknowledged that a narcotics case had been filed against Amir at Singair police station earlier.

Manikganj (Singair circle) Superintendent of Police Alamgir Hossain said Amir's body was sent to the morgue of Manikganj 250 Bed District Hospital for autopsy.

"Police have already gathered some information regarding the reason behind the murder. Suspected criminals were identified. They will be arrested soon and a case will be filed in connection, " added SP Alamgir.
