A man hacked his mother to death during a dispute that occurred over his drug addiction in Munshiganj's Tongibari upazila on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Taslima Begum, 42, of Purapara village of the upazila.

Police arrested her son Manik who was reportedly under the influence of narcotics while committing the murder, said Tongibari police station OC Harun Or Rashid, quoting locals.

According to locals, Manik along with his mother and aunt visited his maternal grandfather's house on Friday when the dispute occurred. Manik hacked his mother Taslima with a bonti (locally made sharp weapon) as disputes ensued between them over his drug addiction and unemployed state.

His aunt Shamsunnahar, 60, has also been injured from the incident while she went to save Taslima. She is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

OC Harun said filing of a case in connection with the incident is under process.
