A physically challenged eight-year-old girl has been raped reportedly by her neighbour in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.
The incident took place in Pashchimpara of Meri Gopinathpur village in the upazila on Tuesday morning.
Dr Asit Mullick, assistant director of Gopalganj General Hospital, said: "Evidence of rape has been found in a primary medical examination. We will submit the report soon."
The girl's mother filed a case with Gopalganj Sadar police station against her neighbour Roich Khan, 33, in connection with the rape, on Wednesday.
The girl's mother said she works for a private company in the village. On Tuesday she left for work, when Roich took the little girl to an isolated place and raped her there.
Inspector Md Abu Nayeem of Gopinathpur police outpost said police are conducting drives to apprehend the accused.
Sub-Inspector Golam Kibriya, investigation officer in the case, said the girl was admitted to Gopalganj hospital on the day of the incident for a medical examination.
