Two cases were filed on Thursday night under the Arms Act and for attempting robbery in a response to strangulating a security guard while executing a robbery in Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni.
On the same day, three suspected robbers involved in the murder were killed in an alleged gunfight with the police, confirmed Daganbhuiyan police station OC Aslam Sikdar.
The cases were filed against Dulal Pera, 45, who is currently under police custody, and a few others.
The deceased from the gunfight were identified as Dulal Matobbar, 42, Babul Molla, 40, of Barguna district and Md Bidyut, 42, of Naogaon district.
Security guard Abdul Mannan, 45, was strangled in Beker Bazar area when he tried to stop a gang of four robbers from loading a truck with looted items from a shop called "Shariat and Brothers," according to police and locals.
Shortly after the incident locals sought help from other residents of the area by using a mosque loudspeaker and also informed the police.
According to the police statement, policemen arrived at the scene and detained two robbers, while other gang members opened fire at them initiating a gunfight.
In retaliation, police then shot and injured three robbers. The injured were taken to the Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty pronounced two of them dead.
The third gang member was sent to Feni General Hospital for better treatment where he died.
Police seized a pipe gun, two sharp knives and a truck loaded with looted items from the place.
