Some weapons were recovered from Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila on Tuesday which were reportedly used during the Liberation War in 1971.

A tarnished stun gun, a magazine and a pistol were found buried in Aminpara area under Shahbazpur union of the upazila around 1pm, when a group of labourers were digging earth to fell trees, according to locals and police.

Upazila Parishad (UP) Chairman Razib Ahmed said: "My father was a freedom fighter. From him I got to know that battles occurred at various places in the upazila during the Liberation War. Battle took place at the spot where the weapons were found. It is assumed that the weapons were used in the war."

The UP chairman added that the weapons could be kept in the Liberation War Museum.

Sarail police station OC Md Nazmul Ahmed said: "The weapons are rusty.” Similar to the assumption of the UP chairman, he also believed that the weapons had been used in the time of the Liberation War.
