3 killed in Noakhali fire

The fire damaged at least 16 shops which caused a loss of around Tk 2 core, say traders

At least three people were killed in a fire that broke out in Noakhali's Hatia upazila on Monday

The incident took place at Chairmanghat bazar at around 10pm.

The deceased were identified as oil trader Mohibul Islam Nipu, a resident of 5 no ward of Chowmuhani municipality, his employee Rohomot Ullah from Darbesh bazar, and another trader Khaled Hasan.

Confirming the matter, Hatia police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Khayer said: "Nipu and Rohomot were burnt to death on the spot. Khaled died on early Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).”

Regarding the incident, Suburnachar Fire Service and Civil Defence In-Charge Md Nurunnabi said the fire had originated from the shop of the deceased Mohibul Islam Nipu.

"A total of 4 units of firefighters brought the fire under control after two hours' frantic efforts. The extent of the damage cannot be confirmed yet," added Nurunnabi.

Md Jamsed, president of Chaimanghat bazar traders association, said the fire gutted at least 16 shops causing a loss of around Tk2 crore to the traders.
