Police arrested a man accused in a case filed for selling rectified spirit which led to the death of 10 people including a married couple in Dinajpur's Birampur upazila.
The accused Rafiqul Islam was arrested from his home in Purba Jagannathpur area of the upazila on Friday around 11:30pm, said Birampur police station's OC Md Moniruzzaman.
Rafiqul had been on the run after the death of the 10 people concerned, and the arrest was made after police learnt that he had returned to his home, said OC Monir.
Rafiqul had been illegally selling rectified spirit for a long time and covered up this activity with the homeopathy medicine business. "He has a total of four cases filed against him including two narcotics cases at Phulbari and Birampur police stations," OC Monir added.
A total of 10 people were killed and 15 others received treatment after falling severely ill after drinking rectified spirit in Birampur upazila on May 26 and on May 27.
