Another doctor, who was infected with Covid-19, died while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka.
Dr Mujibur Rahman Ripon was an associate professor of Pediatrics at Comilla Central Medical College. He was a graduate of the fifth-batch of Faridpur Medical College.
Dr Shagufa Anwar, United Hospital’s chief of communication and business development, confirmed the time of his death at around 12pm on Saturday morning.
She said: “Dr Ripon was admitted at the hospital with breathing difficulties on June 2 and later he tested positive for Covid-19. He was put on ventilation later as his condition deteriorated.”
Dr Shafiqur Rahman, principal of Comilla Central Medical College, said, Dr Ripon had been undergoing treatment in Comilla before being transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Dr Ripon hailed from Thakurgaon district. He has left behind his wife, who is also a physician, and two sons to mourn his death.
With his death, at least 42 doctors have died of Covid-19 so far and six others passed away with coronavirus symptoms, according to Foundation for Doctors & Safety and Rights (FDSR).
