Police have arrested a woman for her alleged involvement in the abduction, confinement, and rape of her 15-year-old teenage niece in Barisal.
The arrestee Aklima Begum, 55, was sent to jail via a court order on Friday, confirmed Agailjhara police station Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain.
Meanwhile, the girl has been admitted to the Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital for medical attention.
The girl’s elder sister filed a case with Agailjhara police station accusing four people on Thursday.
The other accused are Aklima’s brother-in-law Shahid Sheikh alias Sumon, her husband Shahed Sheikh, and Sumon’s accomplice Rezaul Farazi.
According to the plaintiff, after the death of their mother, their father remarried and settled in Dhaka. So, they used to live at their grandfather's house with their aunt Aklima Begum and her husband Shahed Sheikh.
Aklima's brother-in-law Sumon, the prime accused, would visit the house and that is how her sister was acquainted with the him.
On March 16, Sumon asked her sister to meet him by the road near her home. From there, Sumon along with Rezaul Farazi, and Aklima Begum abducted her sister and took her to Sumon's house in Pirojpur.
“The next day, Sumon raped my sister and continued to rape her for over three months while she was kept confined at the house. On June 10, my sister escaped from captivity and came home and told me everything,” she added.
Sub-Inspector Taibur Rahman, investigating officer of the case, said police are continuing their operation to arrest the remaining suspects.
