Police have recovered the body of a woman from a pond in Jahurpur area of Bagharpara upazila, Jessore.
The deceased was identified as Razia, 22, wife of Shahid Shikdar, a resident of the area.
Her mutilated body, with several wounds and stab marks, was found on Tuesday morning, police say.
The OC of Bagharpara police station, Syed Al Mamun, said: “Based on information from locals, we recovered the body from a pond beside a brickfield adjacent to Jahurpur Bazar.”
“As Shahid was a member of an extremist organization in the past and an accused in several cases, including murder, we arrested him.”
“He may have orchestrated the whole incident to frame his enemies; we are questioning him about the incident,” added the OC.
Meanwhile, Shahid claimed: “On Monday night, 14/15 men came to pick me up for unknown reasons. I panicked and fled the scene. And after returning home yesterday morning, I received the news of my wife’s death.”
