Law enforcers have resumed operation at a suspected militant den in the Genda area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka. Police’s bomb disposal team entered one of the two hideouts around 11:30am on Saturday. A huge explosion took place around 12pm inside the building, soon after the operation had begun. “A bomb has been neutralised in the building,” Savar Model police station Assistant Police Commissioner Mahabubur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.

The residents of adjacent buildings had been evacuated to safe zones before the second day’s operations commenced. Fire service personnel and ambulances have been kept on standby. Earlier, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) raided a suspected hideout on Friday evening. Police detained a woman and rescued two children from the house, but two male militants, including one Monir, managed to flee the scene. Based on information from the detained woman, the CTTC raided another six-storey building on suspicion of being a militant den, just 200 yards from the previously raided hideout.
