Two Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were killed and 10 other members injured when a truck carrying them was rear-ended by another in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.
The incident took place at Sarangpur bridge area near the Godagari Government Degree College around 7:40am on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Lance Naik Jobayer Hossain, and Lance Naik Abu Sayeed, confirmed Lt Col Mahmudul Hasan, director of Rohonpur BGB 59 Battalion.
He said: “Thirteen members of BGB 59 Battalion and nine members of BGB 53 Battalion were heading towards Dinajpur from Chapainawabganj to participate in a training program when they were met with the accident.”
Lance Naik Jobayer Hossain died on the spot, while Lance Naik Abu Sayeed succumbed to his injuries when he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) along four others.
The rest of the injured BGB members are currently undergoing treatment at Godagari Upazila Health Complex.
Godagari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Islam said the truck was seized but its driver and his assistant managed to escape, adding that legal actions will be taken in connection with the incident.
