Journalist with Covid-19 symptoms dies at Bogra hospital

The deceased, identified as Oyasir Rahman Ratan, 65 was the editor of Dainik Bogra, published in the district

A journalist with Covid-19 symptoms died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) in Bogra on Thursday.

Oyasiur Rahman Ratan, 65, the news editor of Dainik Bogra, published in the district, was suffering from fever and cough.

Oyasiur died at around 12pm while he was waiting to submit samples for Covid-19 testing at the hospital, according to the family members.

Dr Abdul Wadud, assistant director at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, said: "We primarily suspect the journalist might have died of brain stroke. But, we have collected samples from the deceased to run a test for Covid-19."

Oyasiur's nephew Badhon said Oyasiur with his other family members went to the hospital for a coronavirus test on Thursday. At one point, he fell ill and was taken to the medicine department where he died.

The journalist is survived by her wife, a son and a daughter, added Badhon.
