Lalmonirhat teenager beaten mercilessly for ‘stealing’; transport leader held

The teen was stealing the fuel to sell it to the vendor and feed his poor mother. Not only Ashraf, but we will also take legal action against all the responsible people who were involved in this heinous act, police say

Police have arrested the president of Lalmonirhat Truck & Covered Van Owners’ Association for his reported involvement in brutally torturing a teen over theft charges.

The accused, Ashraf Ali Lal, 55, an influential figure of the area and also a prominent leader of the association, reportedly caught the teen while he was stealing fuel from a local shop in Mission Mour intersection.

Later, he beat up the 16-year-old and when the teen fell to the ground, Ashraf placed his legs on his throat and brutally tortured him, while the rest of the people kept watching without rescuing the poor boy, sources said.

The brutal incident was recorded and when posted to Facebook, it was noticed by the Superintendent of Police Abida Sultana and she directed us to take legal action, confirmed Sadar police station, OC Mahfuz Alam.

“We arrested Ashraf early morning Wednesday around 2am and rescued the injured teen from Sadar’s Chandnibazar,” said the OC.

“The teen was stealing the fuel to sell it to the vendor and feed his poor mother. Not only Ashraf, but we will also take legal action against all the responsible people who were involved in this heinous act,” further said the OC.
