Robbers snatched over Tk 80 lakh in broad daylight after shooting six employees of a garment factory in Gazipur's Kaliakair on Sunday.
The incident took place in front of Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City, when six employees of Incredible Fashion Ltd were transporting Tk8,022,000 by microbus at around 12:30pm.
Junior Merchandiser Chandra Majumdar Shuvo was shot in the jaw and is now undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.
Khorshed Alom, general manager of the factory's Production Division, said around 8/10 people in a microbus and two motorcycles intercepted the employees, opened fire, and got away the cash.
The money was withdrawn from Bank Asia's Kaliakair Bazar branch to pay wages to garment workers, he added.
Gazipur Industrial police Inspector Rezaul Karim said they heard of the incident from the GM of the factory. Iinjured Shuvo was shifted to Dhaka city's Apollo Hospital from Tongi's Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Kaliakair police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain Majumdar said a case was filed for the robbery.
Contacted, Gazipur Superintendent of Police(SP) Shamsur Nahar said police are investigating the matter and looking for the robbers.
