Animesh Bijoy Chowdhury, a Rabindra sangeet singer of Sylhet, has raised a fund for the unemployed suffering due to coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown through singing on Facebook Live.

A total of Tk157,000 has been raised as he sang for an hour every day since April 16, says the singer to this correspondent.

Agnibha Bandyopadhyay, a professor of Rabindra Sangeet at the Rabindra Bharati University was present during the final day of the  programme on Saturday night.

Animesh sang songs mostly of Rabindranath Tagore, Dwijendralal Roy and Atul Prasad Sen upon viewers request and asked donation for the unemployed labourers suffering due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Animesh said: "Its not possible to stay well alone in society. We have to include everyone in that pursuit. The coronavirus situation is making us realize this more than ever."

Food stuff will be bought for people in trouble with the raised money, added Animesh.

Animesh is the principal of a music school called ‘Geetbitan Bangladesh’ in Sylhet city. He is also the joint general secretary of Sylhet district Sommilito Sangshkritik Jote.

Sukanta Gupta, a cultural activist and coordinator of the raised fund, said more money will be added to the fund excluding the raised amount.

Aminul Islam Chowdhury Liton, district unit president of Sommilito Sangshkritik Jote said Animesh's initiative is exemplary to cultural activists all across the country.
