A man was killed and 10 others were injured as a storm lashed Nasirnagar and Sarail upazilas in Brahmanbaria on Saturday morning.
Jishu Miah, a resident of Ashurail village in Nasirnagar upazila, died of a stroke.
Besides, over a hundred dwelling houses, electric poles, and trees were damaged to a large extent by the storm that hit the two upazilas at around 8am, causing a heavy loss to the locals.
The distressed locals are currently living under the open sky.
"My house, kitchen, and all the belongings were blown away by the storm. I am now living under the open sky, and do not know what I will eat," lamented widow Anita Das, a resident of Nasinagar's Pachcmim para village.
Within a minute, my only house was blown away, said another elderly Mulchan Begum.
Nasirnagar Palli Bidyut Samity Zonal Manager Himel Kumar Saha said that the powerful storm tore apart electric poles at 35 places and damaged two transformers in the upazila, which caused power outage. "We are working to restore power supply."
Deputy Commissioner Hayat-ud-Dowla Khan said that houses, electric poles, and trees were damaged in around 12 villages of Nasirnagar and Sarail upazila.
"Authorities will provide corrugated tins, food, and cash to the locals who have been hit hard by the storm," he added.
