Police arrested a man in a case filed for raping a schoolgirl from Bakra village in Jhikargacha upazila of Jessore on Thursday night.
The arrested, identified as Rana lives in Dhighirpar village of Manirampur upazila, said Manirampur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam.
According to the case statement, the victim studies in class seven in a school of Dhighirpar village of Manirampur upazila. Her mother who is a brick kiln worker stays outside her home for most of the time in the day due to her job. Taking advantage of the mother's absence, the accused Rana developed a relationship with the girl.
Rana raped the child finding her alone in the home on May 10.
Later, the victim's mother filed a case against Rana on Thursday evening. Subsequently, police arrested the accused from his uncle's house in Jhikargacha upazila at night.
Speaking on the matter, Manirampur police station OC Rafiqul Islam said: "Rana was sent to jail following a court order on Friday."
