Sylhet police have filed a case against 1,500 unidentified individuals over the clash between two groups of transport workers that took place in the city’s Kadamtali area on Tuesday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Sub Inspector Nur Alam filed the case on Wednesday, confirmed Jedan Al Musa, deputy commissioner SMP.
However, no one was arrested in the case as of yet, said the police official.
A faction of transport workers had been protesting for the last few days against Selim Ahmed Folik, vice president of Bangladesh road transport workers' federation and president of Sylhet road transport workers' union, accusing him of embezzling Tk2 crore from the workers' welfare fund.
On Tuesday morning, a few of the protesting workers came to Kadamtoli bus terminal and threw brickbats at Folik's office, which resulted in a clash between them and his supporters.
Transport owners' unity leaders and police officials rushed to the spot upon hearing the news of the clash.
Several buses were damaged and at least 50 people were injured in the clash.
Protesting workers said there should have been at least Tk2.5 crore in the welfare fund but President Folik gave a statement saying that there is only Tk41 lakh in the fund.
Meanwhile, Selim Ahmed Folik could not be reached for comments on the matter.
