Editors of five online news portal in Narayanganj have alleged that their websites have been blocked by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The news portals are Jugerchinta24.com, Press Narayanganj24.com, News Narayanganj24.com,Narayanganj today24.com and Somoy Narayanganj24.com.
Readers have not been able to access the news portals since May 14, according to the editors.
Morsalin Babla, editor and publisher of Jugerchinta24.com, said : "We do not know why the news portals were blocked."
"We have not done anything that will lead to a blockage of our news portals," said Morsalin.
"A vested quarter has blocked the news portals because they have published true news. The way the news portals were blocked is illegal,” said Fakhrul Islam, editor and publisher of Press Narayanganj24.com.
"If we had done anything wrong, we should have been informed first." he added.
Speaking on the issue, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Jashim Uddin said: "My office does not issue authorisation for online news portals. But we will look to the matter if any recommendation is made by the editors."
