Suspected drug dealer killed in Jessore 'gunfight'

RAB recovered a foreign-made pistol, a round of bullets and 64 bottles of phensedyl from the spot

A suspected drug dealer was killed in an alleged gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Jessore.

The incident took place at Rampur area of Manirampur upazila around 3am on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Rubel Hossain Shaon, 22, who was a warranted criminal and has 10 cases filed against him including drug dealing.

Confirming, Manirampur police station OC Shikdar Matiar Rahman, said: "A RAB patrol team was on duty at Maswimnagar union under Jessore's Manirampur upazila. Tipped off that contrabands are being sold at Rampur village under the union, the team conducted a raid.

"Detecting the presence of the law enforcers, some drug dealers opened fire, prompting the RAB to retaliate," said OC Shikdar.

"At one stage, the drug dealers turned back and RAB recovered the bullet-riddled body of Rubel from the spot. The body was later sent to Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy," the OC further said.
