A woman was brutally tortured by her husband in Srikreshtapur Schoolpara of Akkelpur municipality area in Joypurhat on Wednesday.
The woman is Khadiza Khatun, 21, wife of Shakil Hossain.
Quoting the woman, police said Shakil has been torturing Khadiza since their marriage three years ago.
On Wednesday night, Shakil started beating Khadiza mercilessly saying that the day's dinner had not satisfied him.
At one stage, Shakil tied his wife to a litchi tree in the courtyard of their house and burnt her cheeks, legs and hands with a hot iron rod in front of his parents, said Akkelpur police station OC Abu Obaiyed.
Hearing the screams of the woman, local people rushed there and took the woman to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Police arrested Shakil and his brother Aslam Hossain on Thursday after a case was filed in this connection.
