An endangered fishing cat--who entered into Bangladesh through the border from the adjacent Indian hills-- has been rescued by the locals in Companiganj, Sylhet.
The fishing cat, lengthening around 2 to 2.5 feet, was roaming around the Majergaon’s Mosque area on Wednesday evening, locals say.
Locals trapped the wildlife and managed to put it in a cage, officials from the forest department said.
“When we rescued the animal from the locals on Thursday morning, it was injured. Later we released it at the Khadim National Park, Sylhet,” said Forest Officer of Companiganj, Md Yasin Munshi.
“The fishing cat was a bit injured and we provided proper treatment. The wildlife will recover much sooner after being blended with the natural environment of the park,” said BIT officer of Khadim National Park, Chayanbrata Chowdhury.
