A local Awami League activist was killed, and three others were injured in an attack in Kalia upazila of Narail, on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Quaiyum Shikdar, 45, a member of Kalabaria union unit Awami League and son of Hasmat Ali Shikdar of Bilafar village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said supporters of Mursalin Molla-- backed up by Union Parishad chairman Mahmudul Hasan Kayes-- and supporters of local Krishak League secretary Hasanat Molla had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.
A group of miscreants ambushed Quaiyum and his allies, including Hasanat Molla near Boaliyarchar temple area and hacked at them with sharp weapons around 8:30pm. Quaiyum's hands and feet were brutally severed off his body while veins at Hasanat's hands and feet were cut.
Later, all of the injured were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Quaiyum dead, said Naragati police station officer-in-charge Roksana Khatun.
