Former AL MP dies in Bogra with Covid-19 symptoms

She died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital around 11:15pm on Thursday

Former Awami League lawmaker Kamrunnahar Putul died  in Bogra at the age of 65, with Covid-19 like symptoms.

Putul, also former women affairs secretary of Bogra district unit Awami League, died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital around 11:15pm on Thursday, confirmed Dr Samir Hossain Mishu, Sadar upazila health and family planning officer.

Widow of former Awami League lawmaker Mostafizur Rahman Patal, Putul is survived by their son, two daughters, grandsons and granddaughters.

Dr Samir and family sources said Putul went to Dhaka a couple of days back to see her ailing son.

After her return, she fell sick and was suffering from fever and diarrhoea.

Samples were collected from the former lawmaker on Wednesday to determine whether she had the coronavirus infection or not, Dr Samir said.

However, the report was still pending, he said.

As her health deteriorated on Thursday night, she was taken to the hospital where the on-duty physicians declared her dead, he added.

Kamrunnanar Putul was elected an Awami League MP in parliament for women’s reserved seats, when the party came to power in 1996.
