A woman union parishad (UP) member, accused in a case filed over misappropriation of 889 sacks of open market sales (OMS) rice, was suspended from her post on Monday.
Kulsum Begum, the accused, is the suspended reserved seat member of Palashbari union council in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon.
Md Iftekhar Ahmed Choudhury, Deputy Secretary, Local Government
and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry, authorised her suspension through a notice on Monday, according to the district's Deputy Commissioner Dr KM Kamruzzaman Selim.
On April 10, a case was filed against Kulsum Begum and five others over
illegal hoarding of 889 sacks of rice in Baliadangi upazila.
Earlier on April 9, the Baliadandgi upazila nirbahi officer along with
policemen conducted a raid at Kusuldangi market in Baliadangi.
There they found the open market sales (OMS) rice stored illegally at a godown
owned by the accused UP member's husband, according to the case
statement.
The others accused in the case are: Panna Kausar, Amirul Islam, Samirul
Islam, Abdur Rashid, and Jamirul Islam.
