Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday detained a teenager for raping
and strangling a seven year old girl to death in Gazipur town.
The detained is a 15 year old teenager who is also a member of a hijacking
gang in the city, said Lt Cdr Abdullah Al Mamun, company commander of
RAB-1 Porabari camp, at a press briefing on Monday.
The victim, Chandni, was a first grade student of a local madrasa in
Gazipur.
The victim's neck and feet displayed injury marks when her body was
discovered by police at Modhumita rail gate area on Saturday.
The victim's father lodged a case with the Tongi [East] police station on
Monday.
Lt Cdr Abdullah said the accused confessed to his crimes in preliminary
interrogation.
On Friday, the girl went to play in a field near her house. When she was
returning home, the detained and one of his accomplices lured her to an
isolated place saying that she would be given candy, said the RAB officer
quoting the detained teenager.
The two boys raped her there and at one point the victim lost consciousness. They strangled her to death and fled the scene after dumping the body at a spot piled up with rubbish, added the officer.
Lt Cdr Abdullah said that raids will be conducted to catch the teenager’s
accomplice who is the prime suspect in the case.
