Top terrorist killed in Brahmanbaria 'gunfight'

Five policemen were also injured in the deadly gunfight police say

A suspected top terrorist of Brahmanbaria has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Bancharampur upazila of the district.

The deceased, Md Sujan Miah, was accused in six cases including murder, robbery and reportedly killed a man named Babu Miah, 27, on Sunday morning around 11am.

Acting on the case filed on Sunday we made a drive to a deserted place in Bhelanagar village of the upazila on a tip-off on early morning Monday and sensing our presence Sujan and his associates started firing at us,” said Bancharam police station OC Salauddin Chowdhury.

“When retaliated, a deadly gunfight was initiated by the perpetrators injuring five of our policemen. After Sujan’s associates fled the spot, we recovered the wounded body of Sujan,” added the official.

Police took the injured people to the upazila health complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Sujan dead, confirmed the OC.

“We recovered arms used in the crimes and making drives to arrest Sujan’s associates, said OC Salauddin.
