Police constable with Covid-19 symptoms dies in Chittagong

The policeman died at the Chittagong General Hospital at around 11:30am on Friday

A police constable suffering from breathing complications died undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chittagong city.

The policeman identified as Nayeemul Huq, 38, a native of Comilla district, died at around 11: 30 am at Chittagong General Hospital on Friday.

He was working for the Bandar Zone Traffic Department of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).

CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR) Abu Bakar Siddique said the policeman was admitted to the hospital with respiratory complications on Thursday and died undergoing treatment at the hospital at 11:30 am.

“His samples have been sent for a Covid-19 test,” said the police official.

So far 44 policemen under the CMP have been infected with the virus till Friday. Two civilian staffers and three family members of the police personnel also tested Covid-19 positive.

Apart from that, three constables of the industrial police in Chittagong tested Covid-19 positive last night.

Besides, a sub-inspector of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 also tested positive for coronavirus.
