A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in the Kolabagan area of Sadar upazila, Jessore.
The deceased, Babu, 40, a reputed drug dealer of the area, was found injured in the gunfight that took place early morning Tuesday, and died later that day.
Police made a drive to the area on information that a large drug trade is going to take place around 12am onTuesday. Sensing their presence, the drug dealers started firing at them and when police retaliated, they fled the spot, police say.
“After the gunfight, we found the critically injured Babu and when he was taken to a hospital, the duty-doctor declared him dead,” said Kotwali police station OC Tasmim Alam.
“Two of our policemen were also injured in the incident. Filing of a case is underway,” added the OC.
A shooter gun, 200 yaba pills, and 50 bottles of phensedyl were also recovered from the spot, police sources confirmed.
