A Habiganj journalist received death threats after he wrote a report on rice misappropriation and union council chairman's ill-treatment to a relief seeker in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj.
The journalist Chhoni Choudhury filed a General Diary (GD) at Nabiganj police station in connection with the threats he received on Saturday, confirmed Nabiganj police station OC Md Azizur Rahman.
Moreover, the journalist expressed serious concern regarding the safety of himself and his family.
According to the GD filed, recently, Chhoni Choudhury sent a written complaint to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer regarding 'rice misappropriation with fake thumb impression (fingerprint)' and 'Tearing down a relief seeker's card by Gaznaipur union council chairman'.
Later Chhoni and a few other journalists published news regarding the matters on local media.
On May 8, an unknown caller phoned him and threatened to kill him if he further published any report over the matters, the case details further mentions.
The journalist also expressed concern regarding the safety of his school going siblings and other family members.
OC Azizur said police are investigating the incident seriously. Journalists' organizations in the district demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits involved.
