At least nine people died in seven districts around the country.
While one allegedly committed suicide and another reportedly drowned, the motives for the murders of the other seven have not been determined.
The incidents took place on Saturday and Sunday. Police detained six people for their alleged involvement in the murders but most of the perpetrators are yet to be identified, police sources say.
In Pabna, a college student named Jewel Rana, 20, was stabbed to death in Kalabagan of Sadhurpara.
Police took the critically injured youth to Pabna General Hospital where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor, said OC Nasim Ahmed of Sadar police station.
In Noakhali, in Companiganj upazila’s Char Elahi union, a 32-year-old man was beaten to death, reportedly in a local power struggle.
The deceased, Rashed, 32, was abducted from his shop early Sunday morning and mercilessly beaten, said police sources.
“We took critically injured Rashed to Noakhali General Hospital where he passed away undergoing treatment,” said OC Arifur Rahman, of Companiganj police station.
In Joypurhat, pharmacist Anowar Hossain Shamim, 40, was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in Khetlal upazila’s Sarail village.
“We are investigating the incident. We have detained five youths for questioning and a case is being filed,” said Khetlal Police OC, Siddikur Rahman.
In Nilphamari, police have recovered the dead bodies of three people killed in separate incidents in Domar upazila on Sunday.
The corpse of Jakirul Islam, 25, was recovered from a drain in Boragari union of the upazila. Housewife Mahfuza Begum,18, was found dead, hanging from a ceiling of a house in Horinchora union, and the body of a child hacked to death, Mobassher, 5, was found in a deserted place, confirmed Domar police station.
"Separate cases have been filed and we are investigating the cases," said OC Mostafizar Rahman.
"The woman allegedly committed suicide over family disputes and we detained a ninth grader for the murder of the child. He confessed to his crime,” added the OC.
In Madaripur, police recovered the body of fisherman Mintu Hawlader, 35, from a river in Kalkini upazila on Saturday.
"Primary investigation suggests Mintu drowned while fishing,” said Inspector Harun ur Rashid of Kalkini police station.
In Kurigram, police recovered the body of a sixty year old man from a paddy field in Bhougdanga union on Sunday.
"We found a bottle of poison beside his dead body. Pending investigation, I can only say he might have been killed or committed suicide," said OC Mahfuzar Rahman, Kurigram Sadar police station.
In Narail, police recovered the body of a man hanging from a tree beside his in-laws’ house in Amtola village of the district.
Rickshaw-van driver Ibadat Sheikh, 35, left his wife and children at a relative’s house and was later found dead and hanging, early morning Sunday, said ASP Ripon Chandra Sarker of Kalki police station.
