An 80-year-old coronavirus patient has recovered in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali, raising hope among others fighting with the deadly disease in the district.
The elderly woman along with four of her family members have recovered after an 18-day long battle with Covid-19 on Friday, reports UNB.
Bauphal Upazila Administration greeted the woman and her family members with flowers around 11am and allowed them to go home, said Proshanta Kumar Saha, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer.
He also said they sent samples of five members of the family to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on April 21.
On April 23, all of the family members were put in institutional quarantine at Idris Degree College as IEDCR found them all positive for the virus.
The patients were released as their test reports appeared negative in two consecutive tests, he said adding that the upazila administration provided them with necessary medicines and food for the next 14 days.
Proshanta Kumar Saha said although they have recovered from the disease, they will have to stay in home quarantine for another two weeks.
According to family sources, the five family members returned home from Narayanganj on April 20.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has confirmed 13,134 coronavirus cases and 206 deaths as of Friday.
