Update : 06 May 2020, 10:55 PM

Four workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory in Gazipur had been going to work for the past few days before learning that they were diagnosed with the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Sushanto Sarker, additional superintendent of Gazipur industrial police confirmed the matter and said that the infected workers weren’t allowed to go to work on Wednesday.

Two among the infected patients are father and daughter, while the other two are sisters, according to family sources.

They are from Kaukandi village of Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj. They live in a rented house in Gazipur.

The infected patients said they had left Gazipur for their village on April 23 after their factory was shut down.

"Samples were collected from us for coronavirus test the day we arrived in our village. However, we returned to Gazipur on April 26 after hearing that the factory was reopening.

“We have been working at the factory for the past few days not knowing that we had tested positive for Covid-19,” they said.

Joydebpur police station OC Jabedul Islam said: “Their results came back on Tuesday and Sunamganj administration upon failing to track them down, notified Gazipur administration.”

Later, Gazipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Jaki tracked them down and notified them of their test results.

Dr Muhammad Shahin, health and family planning officer of Gazipur Sadar upazila said, "We locked down the patients' houses immediately after being informed by Tahirpur upazila health and family planning officer on Tuesday. We will collect samples from them for a re-test."
