Man accused in 12 cases killed in Noakhali 'gunfight'

Two members of the police were injured in the incident and two locally made arms, 15 rounds of bullets, and 400 pieces of yaba pills were recovered from the spot

A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with police at Khilpara union under Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Firoz, son of late Khorshed Alam, resident of Hatpukuria-Ghatlabag union of the upazila. He was accused in 12 cases filed with different police stations.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chatkhil police station Md Anwarul Islam said: “We made a drive to the area on a tip-off that a large trade of drugs will take place there.

“Sensing our presence, Firoz and his associates opened fire at us and we fired back in retaliation,” said the OC while explaining the incident.

“After the gunfight, we found the wounded Firoz and took him to a hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead,” the official added.
