An eight-year-old schoolgirl was reportedly raped by her private tutor's younger brother in Abukharkandi village of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur on Monday.
The victim's mother filed a case against the accused Sabbir, 25, with Shibchar police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Monday night, said Madaripur Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shibchar circle) Abir Hossain.
Meanwhile, the victim was shifted to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital from Madaripur Sadar Hospital as her condition deteriorated, said Madaripur Sadar Hospital Residential Medical Officer Dr Akhil Sarkar.
According to police, the child went to her teacher Abu Sayed's home in Abukharkandi village to learn lessons on Monday noon as usual. However, the tutor Abu Sayed and his other family members were absent from the home that time.
Taking advantage of the situation, Abu Sayed's younger brother Sabbir raped the child.
Speaking on the matter, Madaripur Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shibchar circle) Abir Hossain said: "The accused Sabbir and his family members are currently on the run. Police are straining every nerve to catch the accused."
