Two UP chairman suspended for rice theft: Local Government Division suspended two UP chairmen in Narail for plundering rice allocated for underprivileged people suffering amid coronavirus fallout. The two are Md Jarjid Molla, 52, UP chairman of Perli and Alauddin Chowdhury, 60, UP chairman of Jainagar in Kalia upazila. The Local Government Division issued separate orders in this regard on Thursday, said Deputy Commissioner of the district Anjuman Ara.

5 of family infected with Covid-19 in Tangail: Five members of a family tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Shakhipur upazila on Friday, said Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Abdus Sobhan. Dr Sobhan said: "A vegetable trader in Dhaka tested positive for Covid-19 on April 21 after he had returned from the capital to the upazila with mild fever. As the man came in contact with the family members, we collected samples from his wife, two sons and a daughter to test for coronavirus on Thursday. Next day, their reports came back positive for Covid-19." said Dr Sobhan.

Runaway Covid-19 patient traced in Sylhet: A coronavirus infected woman, who fled from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Thursday night, has been located at her husband's house in Sylhet Sadar upazila. The patient was taken to the isolation unit of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital around 12pm on Friday, confirmed Sylhet Civil Surgeon Dr Premanando Mondol. The woman was admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Wednesday where she had given birth to a stillborn, said Faruk Ahmed, in-charge of the police outpost at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. After the delivery, the woman started showing symptoms of Covid-19, which prompted the doctors to collect her samples and run a test. "On Thursday night, her reports came back positive for Covid-19, and later the woman left the hospital without informing doctors," the police official added.

Couple commits suicide in Jessore: A man and his wife committed suicide in Keshobpur upazila on Friday reportedly overwhelmed by burden of debt. The deceased were identified as Shamim Hossain and his wife Renuka Begum. Confirming, Keshabpur police station OC Jashim Uddin said the bodies have been sent for autopsy. The bodies were found hanging inside their house in Ghopsena village of the upazila. The couple might have committed suicide because of overwhelming amount of debt, said family members of the victims. Their five-year-old child was at his grandfather’s house when the incident took place.

15 injured over land dispute in Madaripur: At least 15 people were injured on Friday in a clash between two rival groups over a land dispute in Dighirpar Majhkandi village in Rajoir upazila. According to sources from locals and the police, former union council member Kamal Sheikh and Babul Hawlader had a brawl after an argument took place between them over land ownership. The heat of the incident spread and people from their groups locked into a clash with locally made weapons. Rajoir police station OC Khondokar Shwakat Jahan said the situation was brought under control.

4 suspected drug dealers held with phensedyl in Rajshahi: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained four suspected drug dealers with 465 bottles of phensedyl from Dayingpara area under Godagari upazila early on Friday. The arrested were Sharif Uddin, 26, Arif Hossain, 24, Sohel Rana, 33, and Razib Hossain, 25. Acting On a tip-off, a RAB conducted a raid in the area and arrested them with the phensedyl hidden inside a cement-loaded truck and in a covered van, said RAB sources. A case was filed with Godagari police station in this connection.
