DB arrests Rangpur AL leader convicted in robbery case

Members of the Detective Branch of Rangpur police have arrested a man from Mithapukur who was sentenced to 17 years in prison last year in a robbery case. Abdul Matin alias Milon, 40, is the general secretary of Ghoragachh Union unit Awami League. He hails from Tejkoni Paikpara village of Ghoragachh.Abdul Matin alias Milon Abdul Matin alias MilonPresident of the same unit Anwarul Huq Mondol confirmed his position in the party while talking to the Dhaka Tribune. “But I had no idea that he was a fugitive and had been involved in criminal activities,” he claimed. Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur DB police Jahid Hossain said that they had arrested Matin from Mithapukur area Friday morning. “We arrested Matin in line with a court order. After his arrest, the convict identified himself as an Awami League leader,” OC Jahid added. According to court sources, Matin was tried in absentia in the robbery case and given the jail term by a Nilphamari court last year. The court later issued an warrant for his arrest and ordered confiscation of his properties.
