Local administration has locked down Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur following the death of a man who later tested positive for the new coronavirus.
District committee on coronavirus control and prevention announced the decision on Thursday, confirmed Mujibnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Osman Gani.
Meanwhile, the male ward of Meherpur 250-bed General Hospital, where the patient had died on Wednesday, was also put under lockdown, confirmed Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, reports UNB.
Civil Surgeon Dr Nasir Uddin said the hospital the activities at the male ward was suspended for disinfecting the hospital.
Besides, eight people, including UNO Osman Gani and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Rezanur Rahman, were quarantined after they buried the deceased, according to the health department’s directives.
