Drug dealer killed in ‘gunfight’

Two BGB members were also critically injured in the gunfight that killed the drug dealer

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Notunpara border area of Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga.

The deceased, Jasim Mandal, 35, a suspected drug dealer was arrested with 30 bottles of phensedyl from the border area around 8:30pm on Sunday, confirm BGB and police sources.

Later, upon receiving information from him, a team of the elite force had made a drive to the area around 1am on Monday, to seize an illegal drug storage controlled by his associates. 

“Sensing our presence, Jasim’s associates started firing at us and when we retaliated, Jasim got shot while two of our members were left critically injured in the gunfight,” said Notunpara BGB Company Commander Nayek Subedar Hamidul Islam.

BGB also recovered 300 bottles of phensedyl and local weapons from the spot after the gunfight, confirmed BGB-58 Battalion Commander Lt Col Kamrul Hasan.

“A case has been filed and the dead body has been sent for autopsy,” said Jibannagar Police OC Saiful Islam.
