A passenger launch has been turned into a floating isolation unit in Barisal to treat Covid-19 patients.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Prashanta Kumar Das inaugurated the MV Surovi-8 launch as the new isolation unit at Barisal Launch Terminal on Friday.
Speaking on the matter, Rizwaunul Kabir, director of Crescent Shipping Corporation, also the owner of the launch said: "There are 42 single cabins, 34 double cabins, 2 semi VIP and 4 VIP cabins in the vessel."
"Some 86 patients can be housed in this new isolation center," said Rizwaunul kabir
He also added that the district administration in collaboration with Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) took the initiative to treat people infected with the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
Until Saturday, Bangladesh has confirmed 2,144 Covid-19 cases. Among them, 84 patients died while 58 have recovered so far.
