“A special team of the DB police seized the edible oil of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and arrested the hoarders from Madhya Parbatipur area under Ward 17 in the metropolis Wednesday night,” a press release said Thursday.

As per the direction of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (DB) of RpMP Uttam Prasad Pathak led the drive, seized the stockpiled soya-bean oil and arrested the hoarders.

Assistant Police Commissioner (DB) of RpMP Altaf Hossain, Police Inspectors ABM Feroz Wahid and Rajesh Kumar Chakraborty, Sub-inspectors Md. Nahid and Sadekul and police forces participated in the drive.

The arrested hoarders are: Md. Hanif Mian, 47, and Md. Lal Mian, 52, of Madhya Parbatipur area under Kotwali police station of RpMP in the metropolis.

“These two men were colluding with dealers of TCB items and hoarding up the edible oil in a bid to sell them at a higher price during the upcoming Ramadan,” said Additional Deputy Police commissioner Uttam Prasad.

We are also looking to find the errant dealers of TCB items in question and bring them to justice soon, he added.

The DB police filed a case in this connection against the arrested persons under the Special Power Act of 1974 and handed them over to Kotwali police station of RpMP today.

Kotwali police produced the arrested persons before a Rangpur court from where they were sent to the jail Thursday.

RpMP Commissioner Alim said police will continue conducting raids to stop hoarding and black-marketing of the daily essentials allocated by the government for sale at fair price among the low-income group and poor people amid COVID-19 situation.
