Kurigram police will mandate eight hours of crowd control duty to motorcyclists detained for being on the streets without any valid reasons amid the lockdown imposed to stem the spread of coronavirus in the district.
“Those found to be out on the streets with motorcycles for no good reason will get a mandatory eight hours of crowd control duty in local markets from Wednesday onwards. Now, it’s up to you whether you want to stay home or do crowd control duty with the police,” said Kurigram Superintendent of Police Mohibul Islam Khan, in a Facebook post.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune, he said: “It’s hard enough to work day and night to contain the spread of the new coronavirus. On top of that, people are not following rules and continue to stay out without emergencies.
“We did not get the expected results by stopping motorcycles and handing out fines and punishment. So, this time we thought of doing something different.”
